Let’s admit it, the thought of getting healthier is always there in our heads. Maybe not at the forefront of it, but it’s there revolving around at the back. Why wouldn’t it? We are bombarded with inhumanly sculpted bodies on all social media but that doesn’t mean people looking a certain way or conventionally beautiful & societally acclaimed are healthy. They look good but they could still be unhealthy. And we won’t give you gyaan on how to become societally good-looking. What we will give you gyaan on is how to stop sugar cravings instantly. But before we do that, let’s take a few seconds to look at why we crave sugar in the first place.

Why we crave sugar

Because sugar is energy! Back in the old days, old old days when we didn’t have sugar factories and still got our sugar from fruits found in the wild while on the hunt or the run from some beast, that was all the sugar we got. Sugar being carbs plus the added sweetness made them a desirable source of energy for us. But with the advent of sugar mills, we got refined sugar pumped out into the markets like never before. Now most if not all the products came with sugar. This much sugar is something our sugar-desiring brains crave but our bodies cannot keep up with. This leads us to now where sugar-related ills are on the rise. Thus our need to curb our sugar cravings. So how do you do it? Ye sab gyaan to theek hai lekin kaise quit karna hai ye bata na. Alright, let’s get into it.

Out of sight, out of mind.

Directly waking and quitting it one fine day is next to impossible. Also, unsustainable. Instead, gradual replacement and reduction of sugary items like sodas, sweets and more at home is the way to go. Keep as minimal an amount of sugary food at home as possible. The first thing to go out should be table sugar, then any processed foods because one, they are unhealthy and two, they contain an extremely high amount of added sugar content.

your daily sugar intake should come from fruits and the like. So keep those at home. Once you can’t see those items at home, you are less likely to overdose on them. But we get it, with social media and delivery apps always notifying and showing you the nearest and easiest way to satisfy your cravings, it is difficult. This is where our next point comes into play.

Swapping.

Swap your sugar-loaded items with sugar-free items. This means swapping your sugar for an alternative sweetener like a natural stevia one, like our sweet Sweetify. Swap your sweets with sweets made from sugar alternatives and get `your sugar from fruits as not only satisfy your cravings, they also satiate and fill you. Dates, sweet potatoes, berries, and the like also help. Whole foods and fermented foods while keeping away from ultra-processed food will go a long way keeping you away from sugar and healthy. Fruits have natural sugar and are rich in fiber keeping you satiated for longer compared to empty sugar in processed food and sugary beverages.

But foods are not all you have to swap. See, eating so much sugar has become a habit. So if you are going to cut down on it, you have to swap and replace that habit with something else, like going out and walking, or exercising. Putting your body through its paces helps a lot in regulating your sugar cravings.

A friend in need is a friend indeed.

Get a friend or support buddy to keep you accountable. If you can’t find someone like that, go online and pledge to give away so and so much amount of cash if you go above and beyond in your sugar intake. See, we all make mistakes and have slip-ups. Those are not the issue. But to not let those slip-ups have us spiralling and having someone keep ourselves together, be they a friend or a supportive online community means we’ll not be alone in this journey of stopping cravings and quitting added sugar.

A hot shower & a deep sleep.

Hot showers are known to relax the body and showers are also one place where we feel least stressed. Remember shower thoughts? Your body feels safe and relaxed during the shower which shifts its focus to other matters. That’s how it connects different things and you get many ideas.

If hot showers make you feel relaxed, sleep helps your body recover. The number of studies stating the ill effects of sleep deprivation are aplenty abound. We need to rest our bodies to keep it in a good condition. Sugar cravings are like short-term fixes compared to having a good sleep which will help you maintain your health in the long term. So get your sleep. Don’t skimp on it.

Protein. Protein. Protein.

We need to get enough calories into our body, especially those from protein. Protein is dense and helps in filling you. It takes your body time to digest it and as such keeps it busy and with no time to pay attention to sugar. Having protein also works during weight loss.

All in all, the goal is not to starve but to consume what we do in balance and at ease. Too much sugar stresses the body even if it might soothe the mind. And in return, the stressed body stresses the mind which then starts a vicious cycle. So what we are trying to do is stop the sugar cravings but not stop having our sweetness.
