Ganesh Chaturthi is incomplete without serving the adorable lord Ganesha the delicious Puran poli. The name "Puran" comes from the Sanskrit word "Puranam," meaning "filled," while "Poli" refers to a flatbread. This sweet flatbread has been a part of Indian festivities for centuries, especially during festivals like Holi and Ganesh Chaturthi.

Sugar Free Puran Poli Recipe

Step 1:  Wash and soak the chana dal for about an hour. Then, cook it in a pressure cooker with enough water until it’s soft and well-cooked.

Step 2: Drain the cooked chana dal and mash it into a smooth paste. Alternatively, you can blend it for a finer texture.

Step 3: Heat 2 tablespoons of ghee in a pan, add the mashed chana dal, Sweetify stevia sweetener, cardamom powder, and nutmeg powder. Cook on a low flame, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and comes together as a smooth puran (filling). Let it cool.

Step 4: In a mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour, a pinch of salt, and water to form a soft, pliable dough. Add a tablespoon of ghee to make the dough smooth. Cover and let it rest for 15 minutes.

Step 5: Divide the dough into equal portions and roll them into small balls. Take one dough ball, flatten it, and place a spoonful of the puran in the center. Fold the edges to seal and roll it out gently into a flatbread (poli).

Step 6: Heat a tawa or griddle and cook the puran poli on medium heat. Apply a little ghee on both sides until it turns golden brown and slightly crispy.

Step 7: Serve hot and enjoy! You can store the extra puran poli for later; just warm them up before serving.

A classic treat without the guilt. Easy, isn’t it?
